Barcode Scanner Manufacturer with development & Invention ability
A barcode scanner may read correctly before installation but fail after it is mounted behind a kiosk panel. This is often caused by the installation depth, not the scanner’s decoding ability.
The scanner lens has a field of view, which is the area the camera can see. If the module is installed too far behind a small panel opening, the opening acts like a tunnel and blocks part of this area.
Reading distance tells us how far the barcode can be from the scanner.
Field of view tells us how much of the barcode the camera can see at that distance.
A barcode can be within the correct reading distance but still fail because part of it is hidden by the panel opening. This usually happens with large QR codes, phone screens or barcodes presented at an angle.
Using a higher-resolution scanner does not solve a field of view that is physically blocked by the kiosk structure.
When the scanner is mounted close to the front panel, its camera has a wider view through the opening.
As the scanner moves farther back, the same opening allows it to see a smaller area. The user may need to hold the barcode farther away or position it very carefully before the complete code enters the camera image.
A thick panel, narrow opening or deep protective cover can create the same problem.
Common signs include:
The barcode reads before installation but not inside the kiosk
Small codes read, but large phone QR codes do not
The barcode only reads from one exact position
Part of the phone screen cannot be seen by the scanner
Reading becomes difficult when the phone is tilted
The scanner lens should normally be installed as close to the panel opening as the structure allows. The opening must not block the camera’s view.
XTIOT XT206H1 has pre-applied double-sided adhesive around its scanning window. The module can be aligned with the panel opening and fixed close to the front panel without adding a separate mounting bracket. Its compact and thin design also helps reduce the distance between the lens and the opening.
For equipment that needs a covered scanner module, XTIOT XT206H3 has a built-in acrylic front window and mounting holes. The kiosk structure still needs enough space around the scanner’s viewing area.
Do not check the panel opening only by looking at the scanner dimensions. The camera field of view can be wider than the lens itself.
Testing should use:
The smallest barcode the kiosk needs to read
The largest QR code shown on a phone
The closest and farthest expected reading positions
Different phone sizes and screen brightness levels
The final panel thickness and protective window
Normal straight and tilted scanning angles
If the barcode reads well before installation but becomes difficult after the panel is added, move the scanner closer to the opening or increase the opening size. Changing the software or barcode settings will not fix a camera view that is blocked by the kiosk panel.
