New Mandatory Marking Timeline

The Russian Chestny ZNAK system continues to expand across food product categories. Below are the key deadlines for compliance:

Meat products (including offal and fat products) are required to carry Data Matrix codes starting August 1, 2026.

Sausages will be added to the system from October 1, 2026.

Dietary supplements (БАД) became mandatory from March 1, 2026.

The following categories are already under mandatory marking:

• Vegetable oils – since late 2024

• Canned fish – since December 2024

• Snacks – since March 2025

What Is Required?

Each food product must bear a unique Data Matrix code containing:

• GTIN (Global Trade Item Number)

• Serial number

• Batch number

• Expiry date

• Verification key (encrypted code)

For pallet and shipment tracking, SSCC codes are required at the aggregation level (case and pallet) to ensure full supply chain traceability.
