What Is Required for Pet Products?

Each pet product unit must bear a unique Data Matrix code containing:

• GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) – 14 numerical digits

• Serial number – 6 digits generated by system operator or economic agent

• Verification key – 4 digits provided by system operator

• Verification code (crypto code) – 44 digits for encryption 

For pallet and shipment tracking, SSCC codes are required at the aggregation level (case and pallet) to ensure full supply chain traceability from manufacturer to retailer. Information about ownership transfers must be entered into the monitoring system using electronic universal transfer documents (UTDs) where product codes are specified .
