Barcode Scanner Manufacturer with development & Invention ability
A barcode scanner that reads QR codes cannot automatically read the MRZ lines on a passport or ID card.
MRZ is printed text in OCR-B format. The scanner needs the correct camera, lighting, OCR algorithm and dedicated MRZ firmware.
Passports and ID cards do not always use the same MRZ layout. Before selecting a module, confirm whether the project needs to read:
Passport MRZ
National ID card MRZ
Residence permit MRZ
PDF417, QR codes or other barcodes on the same document
XTIOT XT2010MRZ supports MRZ recognition based on ICAO 9303. It can also read OCR-B, PDF417 and common 1D and 2D barcodes, making it suitable for passport kiosks, hotel check-in terminals and identity verification equipment.
Document material affects reading performance. Passport pages may be curved, while plastic ID cards can reflect the scanner light.
Testing only a normal QR code cannot confirm that the module will read MRZ correctly. The module should be tested with actual passport or ID samples at the planned installation distance and angle.
An MRZ scanner extracts printed information such as the document number, name, nationality and expiry date. It does not confirm that the document is genuine.
If the system also needs to verify an electronic passport chip, NFC hardware and document verification software are required.
For an OEM project, XTIOT needs to know the document types, required data fields, installation space and communication interface before recommending the MRZ scanner module.
