Electronic shelf labels display product information, but they do not give customers a convenient way to scan an item in their hands.

The XTIOT XT802 series combines a barcode scanner and display. Customers present the product barcode to the scanning window, and the scanner sends the decoded data to the retailer’s software for lookup.

Scanning Retail Product Barcodes

Many stores still use EAN and UPC barcodes for product identification. Retail systems are also beginning to process QR Code, Data Matrix and other 2D codes containing longer or structured data.

A price checker therefore needs more than a basic 1D scanner. The embedded scanner should read both traditional product barcodes and newer 2D codes from printed packaging.

What Happens After Scanning?

The XT802 decodes the barcode and sends the data to the installed application. The customer’s software uses that data to search the store database and display the corresponding result.
