The scanner price may not matter much when building one vending machine. It matters when the same machine will be produced in hundreds or thousands of units.

Many vending machines only need to read payment QR codes from mobile phones and common barcodes from printed labels. They do not need a high-resolution scanner or a more complex mechanical design.

The XTIOT XT205M5 is one of the lower-cost models in our embedded scanner range. It covers the barcode reading required by many standard vending machine projects without adding unnecessary hardware cost.

The module also has mounting holes for fixed installation behind the machine panel. Once installed, it sends the decoded barcode data to the vending machine controller or customer software.

XT205M5 is not the right choice for every project. Very small codes, difficult screen conditions or special reading requirements may need a higher-performance model.

For standard vending machine scanning, it provides a more practical balance between function and unit cost.
