A barcode that looks clear to the eye may still be difficult for a production-line scanner.

Codes printed on PCBAs are often very small and surrounded by components. Codes on metal parts may have weak contrast, reflections or machining marks. When a standard reader cannot capture enough detail, decoding becomes inconsistent.

The XT8601B uses a 6MP image sensor to capture more information from these demanding codes. It is designed for fixed installation above conveyors, inspection stations and production equipment.

Where Higher Resolution Helps

The additional image detail is useful when reading:

• Small Data Matrix codes on PCBAs

• Codes positioned close to electronic components

• Low-contrast codes on metal surfaces

• Multiple codes within a larger field of view

• Parts that cannot always stop in exactly the same position

Higher resolution does not automatically solve every reading problem. Lighting, working distance, code size and surface reflection still matter. For reflective metal parts in particular, the correct illumination can be just as important as the scanner itself.

Before selecting the reader, send us sample codes or clear images from the actual production line. We can evaluate the code size, material, reading distance and installation space before recommending a setup.

The XT8601B is not simply a “higher-pixel scanner.” Its real value is giving machine builders more image detail to work with when ordinary barcode readers begin to miss the code.
